"A
Stranger Here" - a new choral work for 44 singers
In ‘A Stranger Here’ Mikhail Karikis visits a homonymous score from the English Baroque by John Amner (1579 – 1641) and enters into a dialogue with it addressing the ‘stranger’ in Amner’s original sacred motet.
Mikhail’s new work consists of a sequence of settings in which the choir questions the presence of the ‘stranger’ and progressively doubts its own homogeneity while Mikhail’s voice grapples with dislocation and desertion. (Jan 2008)
